Girls Girls Girls! - Day 5 of 7
Jumbled by
Nathanael Lark
For day 5 of this topic I'd like to share a couple of holiday inspired girls.
"Peppermint Swirl" - I wrote the poem that accompanies this illustration inspired by the beauty regular women, plain and simple. As a society we exalt the bombshells, models, actresses and sex symbols. That's all well and good but what gets my heart racing most is a regular girl!
Mid riff shirt in the snow? Heck yeah! If these southern California girls all around me here in Los Angeles can justify wearing Ugg Boots with mini skirts in hot weather then I feel completely at ease drawing a bare stomach on a cold winter night. Besides, she's got that puppy to snuggle up with.
Back tomorrow for day 6 with more cutie-patooties.
Best,
Nathanael

Girls Girls Girls! - Day 4 of 7
Jumbled by
Nathanael Lark
Day four, let's jump right in! Hey kids, get your library cards out because...
"Excuse me, young man. You have some overdue books!" Librarians. What can I tell you? I'm a book worm and it's a fantasy.
"Hola, Papi. Venga aquí!" Latinas. I don't think I even need to explain this one.
"Anyone for scuba?" Girls, guns, wet suits. Is it hot in here?
Back tomorrow with more girls!
Best,
Nathanael

Girls Girls Girls! - Day 3 of 7
Jumbled by
Nathanael Lark
As promised here is my third consecutive post for this week's topic. I'm making way to posting all seven days of the topic. Day three, here we go...
Surf's Up, girl! I had a blast creating this one. I loaded up a Beach Boys playlist and really got into the vibe. I got the pose/gesture directly from watching a video (at Island's Restaurant) of surfers. I had my sketchbook with me at dinner (like a good little art boy) and took down a bunch of gesture drawings. Months later when I got the idea to create this illustration I remembered those sketches and they really helped!
My sis on Christmas morning! My delightful, adorable little sister. She's all grown up now but back in the day she was just like this. I am filled with such incredible memories when I think of her as a little kid. There's an eleven year age gap between us so I got the chance to really be the "cool big brother" and enjoy fantastic adventures with her. Come to think of it, she does have the stuffed panda nowadays, though!
More girls tomorrow!
Best,
Nathanael

BOY DO I LOVE A GOOFY LOOKING GIRL by Elgin BOlling

My funny Valentine
Sweet comic Valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable, unphotographable
Yet you're my favorite work of art
Is your figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak, are you smart?
But don't change a hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little Valentine, stay
Each day is Valentine's Day

Girls Girls Girls! - Day 2 of 7
Jumbled by
Nathanael Lark
As promised here is my second (of seven) consecutive day of posts for this topic. These are so much fun!
At the beginning of each year I create an official New Year's Girl. Here are my cuties from the past three years (including a remix of this year's girl). Enjoy!
2010 New Year's Girl.
Champagne Refill - 2010 New Year's Girl Remix.
2009 New Year's Girl.
2008 New Year's Girl.
I have such fond memories of creating each of these. Every year for the holidays I travel from Los Angeles back home to Wisconsin to spend time with family. There, amidst the glowing Christmas lights, warm fire and delicious smells of home cooked meals and cookies I indulge in creative bliss while creating these little bombshells. I hope you have as much fun viewing them as I do creating them!
Very Best,
Nathanael
